Quieting Creaky Pipes
Do your pipes bump and grind in the night? Do they creak and squeak when they rub against their joists and hangers? There is a simple fix, that requires very little labor. Make a run to your local hardware store and pick up some adhesive felt pieces. Cut these pieces into thin strips. Now you must undo each hanger, one at a time. Apply a felt strip across the joint, adhesive side down. Once the joint is covered, attach the hanger back on top of the felt, and move on to the next joint area. Do this one by one down the pipe, until all hangers are resting upon felt. This reduces grinding noises on your pipes, even when hot water is run through them. Getting Your Items From The Sink Back
Sometimes the inevitable happens and things fall down the drain. And, unfortunately, these things are often near and dear to us. Even in cases where the object is not as important to us, it is still a good idea to fetch the item, this will help prevent build up of debris. The first and foremost action when something falls into the drain is to turn off the faucet to prevent pushing the item even further down the pipe and reaching the sewer. At this point, the object is likely finding it’s way to the sink trap. Getting into your trap may vary by sink, but you can still follow these general guidelines. First, get a bucket to put under the pipes to catch any water that may fall. The next step is to remove the portion of the trap that is “J” shaped; loosen the slip nuts, and then extract the trap. You now have the opportunity to shake out the fallen object, and also to clean out the sink trap. This is a good idea to do occasionally anyways to prevent residue and matter build up. Once you have your lost item, everything goes back together the way it was taken apart. If the object still has not been dislodged, contact a professional at 4 Fast Plumber to assist you.
Retrieving Items From The Commode
Items get lodged in the toilet, too. This is to be expected and happens to almost everyone. In the case of hard objects being lodged and clogging your toilet, do not reach for the plunger. This may be your first instinct, but it could actually reverse the process and push the item even farther in. Instead, grab your wet and dry shop vacuum and suck out the object. This will also bring out some water, but don’t worry, it will accumulate again in the bowl. If an object gets too far down the pipe, never hesitate to ask for fast service from 4 Fast Plumber.
