4FastPlumber Can Help You With One Of The Most Common Plumbing Issues, Drain Clogs

Clogged drains are among the most common plumbing issues that homeowners face. Most likely, you will be able to fix many clogs yourself (more information on that below). For more serious clogs, give us a call, and we will be glad to come out and help you get everything back to normal. Don’t let a clogged drain stop you from enjoying life around your house.

Clearing A Clogged Drain With Tools And Appliances

A plunger is a very handy tool for clearing clogged drains. Many homeowners keep plungers next to their toilets, but sink plumbers are important household tools as well. If you believe that your sink is clogged, you can cover the drain opening with your sink plunger, use your finger to cover the sink’s overflow hole, fill the sink with hot water to increase the pressure on the clog, and then begin plunging. This will clear up many drain clogs. Give us a call, we can come out and remove the sink’s “p trap” and clean it out.

For deeper clogs, we use what is known as a “plumber’s snake.” The technical name for this tool is a cable auger. This is a long metal coil that is fed into the drain. Then, using either a hand crank or an electric motor, our technicians would rotate the coil to break up any deep clogs. We can easily help you unclog your drain; our trucks are fully stocked with the proper tools to get your drains running freely quickly and efficiently.

Clearing A Clogged Drain Using Chemicals

Minor clogs can also be cleared up using chemicals. Vinegar, for instance, does a great job of clearing up drain clogs, especially when mixed with baking soda or salt. We recommend wearing some goggles or other eye protection, then pouring the mixture down the drain. It will take about half an hour for the mixture to foam up and work its unclogging magic. During this time, you should cover the drain with a cloth. After half an hour, you can test to see if the solution worked by running hot water through the drain and seeing if it is still clogged. If so, give us a call.
